Air Liquide Canada is congratulating Chatham-Kent Health Alliance after it became the first healthcare facility in Ontario to recognise medical air quality matters after it engaged in Air Liquide Heathcare’s unique medical air quality service – aerALin™.
aerALin™ is a parametric batch release quality control service designed for hospitals producing medical air on-site. Designed as a plug and play addition to existing medical air compressor plants, aerALin™ improves patient safety by ensuring only USP quality medical air is distributed through hospital pipelines.
Medical air USP is a drug regulated by Health Canada, and its use is widespread throughout hospitals. Medical grade air is essential for aerosol drug delivery, treating newborns with respiratory difficulties, ventilation, high-flow therapy, select hyperbaric treatments, and many anaesthesia protocols.
The United States Pharmacopeia (USP) specifies the quality of medical air for therapeutic use. USP limits a number of contaminants, including those common to outdoor air pollution such as carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, and sulphur dioxide. The National Building Code of Canada mandates that when distributed through hospital pipelines, the owner of the healthcare facility must ensure they are putting medical air USP into the pipeline.
