Energy company McDermott has been awarded a front-end engineering design (FEED) contract by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility located approximately 155 miles (250 km) from Abu Dhabi, UAE.
Designed with a total capacity of 9.6m tonnes per annum (Mtpa), the plant will feature innovations that ‘significantly reduce’ greenhouse gas emissions, in addition to electric drives for the liquefaction compressors.
Commenting on the project, Tareq Kawash, Senior Vice President, Onshore, McDermott, said, “Our biggest differentiator is our ability to execute this FEED on a fast track basis incorporating all of the characteristics required to support the award of EPC contracts which are expected in 2023.”
The contract builds upon a previous collaboration between the companies in the 1980s, when McDermott worked to develop ADNOC’s LNG and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) storage facilities on Das Island.
