McDermott wins FEED contract for Mozambique’s Rovuma LNG project

Global engineering and construction solutions company McDermott has been awarded a front-end engineering and design (FEED) contract for phase one of the Rovuma LNG project in Mozambique.

Rovuma LNG is a joint venture between ExxonMobil Development Africa B.V., Eni S.p.A. and CNODC Dutch Cooperatief U.A. Once fully operational, the project is expected to have a production capacity of 18 million tonnes per annum.

Phase one will liquefy, and export of natural gas extracted from the offshore area four fields off the Afungi Peninsula in Mozambique.

The FEED contract includes the modular design of a greenfield LNG production facility in Afungi, all associated gas pre-treatment units and the utilities and offshore systems to support the LNG production.

It also includes an engineering, procurement, and construction proposal.

Rob Shaul, Senior Vice-President of McDermott’s Low Carbon Solutions business, believes LNG helps to share a new era for energy solutions and notes McDermott’s role in the industry.

He added, “McDermott is well established in Mozambique and can apply this knowledge and experience to continue the country’s industrial, social, economic development.”

Work on the project will be carried out from McDermott’s office in London.

Helium Super Summit 2024

Join gasworld in October 2024 as our Helium Super Summit returns to Houston, Texas.

A sell-out audience of 400 delegates from across the helium value chain gathered in Houston for last year’s Helium Super Summit, as it tackled the most significant challenges facing the helium business in 2023/24 and the uncertainty that hung over the market and its array of end-users.

With Helium Shortage 4.0 now over and greater stability seen in the market, the emphasis is on what comes next. Have we really seen the end of market volatility? What impact will trade sanctions and geopolitical events have on supply chains? Where is the most promising start-up activity and exploration? And what future for global helium supply and pricing?

Join gasworld in Houston again this October as the Summit focuses on all of these questions and so many more besides. With a complete speaking programme, a compelling venue and location, and a who’s-who of the global helium business in attendance, all that’s left to do is secure your own place at the event!
