Increasing access to medical oxygen is more relevant than ever, Robert Matiru, Director of Programme Division, Unitaid, told delegates on the second day of the Abu Dhabi MENA Industrial Gases Conference 2022.
“Clearly it was a priority during the pandemic and it will remain so moving forward,” he said.
Matiru said $1bn has been mobilised in the last 18 months, and investment will continue to be deployed next year and beyond.
The big development on the horizon is the formation of a Global Oxygen Alliance, which will capitalise on oxygen’s momentum during Covid, and help redress key issues that caught policymakers, regulators and the healthcare industry by surprise.
