Lomarlabs, a subsidiary of ship-owning and management group Lomar, is collaborating with tech startup Seabound on a cost-effective technology to capture CO2 emissions onboard vessels.
Seabound is perfecting a patent-pending carbon capture device that can be retrofitted to a ship’s engine exhaust at the funnel. The carbon capture device is filled with pebbles of quicklime which then convert into limestone, locking the CO2 inside.
The great benefit of the technology is that it captures the CO2 present in the exhaust plume without the need for energy-intensive CO2 separation, which typically involves compression or liquefaction.
