LNG supply contract revealed

Malaysia’s state-owned oil company Petroliam Nasional Bhd, otherwise known as Petronas, has revealed a significant new contract agreement that will see its Malaysia LNG Sdn Bhd unit supply up to 920,000 metric tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) per year to Japan Osaka Gas Co Ltd.

The contract, of which no financial details were disclosed, is for a term of 15 years beginning April 2009 and the LNG will be transported from the Petronas LNG complex in Bintulu, in the east Malaysian state of Sarawak, to Osaka Gas’ receiving terminals in Senboku and Himeji in Japan.

The Petronas LNG complex has a combined production capacity of about 23 million tpy, while Petronas’ LNG business is supported by unit MISC – the world’s largest owner and operator of LNG tankers.

Osaka Gas is the second largest gas company in Japan, supplying household and industrial gas to more than 6.8 million users in the Kansai area.
