A liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier equipped with a new engine-control system design to optimise engine operation has completed gas trials in Korea.
Currently under construction by Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) and scheduled for delivery this month, the carrier is powered by MAN Energy Solutions’ (MAN) B&W ME-GA dual-fuel engines capable of running on fuel oil and LNG.
The engine, which is integrated with Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) for emission reduction, also supports a new control feature called ‘ME-GA opti’ for optimal engine operation through individual cylinder control.
