Linde’s 2035 absolute emissions reduction target has today (20th Oct) been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
The industrial gas giant last year (2022) announced its 2035 climate plan, which detailed plans to triple its procurement of renewable and low-carbon energy.
Linde said at the time the plan would see it increase its commitment to low carbon technologies such as carbon capture and storage (CCS) and green hydrogen.
In support of this, the SBTi has now confirmed that Linde’s near-term target to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions 35% by 2035, versus 2021, is aligned with the goals set out by the Paris Accords. Looking beyond 2035, Linde has said it wants to achieve climate neutrality by 2050.
