Linde wins record small on-site projects in 2024

Linde has secured a record number of new small on-site projects for the supply of nitrogen and oxygen for the fifth year in a row.

Having signed 59 new long-term deals in 2024 with customers across a range of end markets including electronics, electric vehicles, glass and metal, the company will build 64 plants at customer sites.

Referencing its “commitment to innovation,” Sanjiv Lamba, CEO, said, “Our small on-site plants fully leverage this and provide cost-effective solutions that help our customers enhance efficiency while reducing emissions.”

Last year, the company invested $120m in Indonesia’s largest air separation unit (ASU) in southeast Asia to supply gases to mining company PT Freeport Indonesia.

Linde also bought two ASUs and doubled the gas supply for Tata Steel’s Kalinganagar facility in Odisha, India. In the same month, the company started up an ASU in Punjab, doubling its total merchant capacity in the region.

In the US, Linde doubled its merchant liquid capacity at its La Porte, Texas-based ASU to meet increased demand for industrial gases across the US Gulf Coast.

Similar efforts were seen in Florida, where the company boosted ASU capacity by 50% to support the state’s healthcare, manufacturing, food processing and water treatment sectors.

For 2025, the company has said it aims to continue identifying and developing growth opportunities in traditional end markets and the energy transition.

“As we’ve said on earnings calls, we expect to sign $8bn to $10bn in decarbonisation projects in the short term. With our Texas and now Canada projects in the backlog, we’ve signed more than $4bn, and over the next few years we fully expect to develop and contract more high-quality projects that meet our investment criteria,” said Nicolas Pattera, President of Linde Canada, who spoke with gasworld in December 2024.

“Heading into 2025, we remain fully committed to delivering high-quality products, technologies, and services that help make our customers more productive. Industrial gases are part of the solution for industries to decarbonise. Gas intensity continues to increase, and with that we are seeing an increased demand for our products.”
