This June saw the Linde Group join 80 other delegates at the 7th International Workshop on Mercury Emissions from Coal, in which they addressed ways to monitor and control mercury emissions from coal.
The MEC7 was attended by over 80 delegates, who represented over 20 countries and was held in Glasgow, Scotland. The event was organised by the International Energy Agency Clean Coal Centre IEA CCC and received support by the David Livingstone Centre for Sustainability at Strathclyde University.
Interaction between attendees was facilitated by Oxford’s Integrating Knowledge to Inform Mercury Policy (IKIMP), in addition to Geneva’s United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The resulting discussions concentrated on how public bodies, agencies and commerce can collaborate to address the environmental issue of monitoring and controlling mercury emissions from coal combustion.
Next year’s event, the MEC8, is scheduled to take place in South Africa. The Linde Group have committed to attending the 2011 workshop.
