The US medical gases division of Linde North America has introduced ultrasonic cylinder testing which promises to save homecare companies millions. The new technology saves time, maximises efficiency and also doubles the re-qualification lifetime of cylinders.
LifeGas has harnessed Sonic+ ultrasonic examination (UE) technology to retest medical aluminium gas cylinders. LifeGas, won the first Department of Transportation exemption in the industry for the use of UE in lieu of the traditional hydrostatic testing method for re-qualifying compressed gas cylinders.
The new technology is preferable to hydrostatic testing, as it omits the need to disassemble the cylinder. Sonic+ technology operates by detecting internal cylinder flaws through the use of external ultrasonic waves.
Anthony Eafrati, LifeGas Homecare Market Manager highlighted the significance of this to the medical gases industry. He explained, $quot;This is particularly critical with medical gas cylinders which require pristine interiors.$quot;
