Two Japanese companies, Tokai Carbon Co., Ltd. and Sekisui Chemical CO., Ltd., have entered a partnership to develop a new and novel form of carbon capture.
Unlike the most common forms of CCUS, which capture carbon emissions only to sequester them deep underground in old oil fields and similar geological voids and strata, this form of CCUS aims to efficiently capture CO2 as solid carbon.
Sekisui Chemical is currently developing an innovative chemical looping reaction technology that converts CO2 to CO at a high 90% yield using a proprietary catalyst and reaction process.
