Iwatani to build new ASU in Indonesia

Making an expected investment of ¥1.7bn ($16.2m approx.), Iwatani Corporation is to construct a new cryogenic air separation unit (ASU) in Karawang International Industrial City (KIIC), Indonesia.

News of the project came from Iwatani Chairman and CEO Akiji Makino, via The Gas Review, during the company’s Iwatani Welding Seminar in Indonesia 2013 toward the end of last year.

The new ASU will be built on the premises of Iwatani Industrial Gas Indonesia (IIGI), with construction set to begin this year.

It seems the project will fulfill a long-term objective for the company. Makino told The Gas Review, “We had already planned to construct an ASU when we moved into this area in 1996. This was, however, a very difficult time, with the currency crisis going on. Now, the Indonesian economy has been stable and has growth potential. Our number of customers is increasing, and the crucial issue now is stable supply.”
