The first publicly accessible hydrogen (H2) station in London was officially opened today, at the National Physical Laboratory in Teddington.
The station, belonging to UK-based energy storage and clean fuel company ITM Power, is the first of three facilities to be deployed in the UK as part of the pan European HyFive project, funded by the European Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking (FCHJU) and the UK Government Office of Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV).
This newest development comes as a result of ITM Power and the UK’s leading industrial gas company, BOC, teaming up at the beginning of April this year. Under the agreement, the member of The Linde Group is contracted to source and install the appropriate Linde technology, including H2 compressors and dispensers, at ITM Power’s new H2 refuelling station locations, based on the latter’s electrolyser technology. Both companies will work together to build a network of H2 refuelling stations throughout the country.
