LC3 Trasporti (LC3) has installed a new boil-off gas treatment unit (BTU) system to control boil off gas (BOG) at its liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel station in Piacerea, Italy.
During the process of LNG unloading and storage some part of LNG evaporates into gas phase, which is usually called boil-off gas (BOG). BOG can be harnessed as fuel, re-liquefied, compressed and put into gas transportation network or burned in a flare.
By converting BOG back into liquid form, it is possible to avoid the venting of BOG into the atmosphere and associated methane emissions.
As part of the EU Green Deal, venting of methane into the atmosphere will become illegal by 2030.
