Italian energy companies Italgas and Buzzi Unicem have joined forces to promote decarbonisation of cement and concrete production processes through the use of Power to Gas plants and carbon capture systems.
Cement production is associated with 8% of total carbon dioxide (CO) emissions worldwide, making its decarbonisation a key component of a successful energy transition.
The agreement will focus on assessing the possibility of producing and using synthetic methane created sustainably through green hydrogen produced by the power-to-gas plants.
Some of the CO2 emitted during the production process of the green hydrogen will also be used to produce the synthetic methane.
