As of 1 April, Ineos Fluor changes its name to Mexichem Japan.
The name-change was prompted by acquisition of its fluorine chemicals asset by the parent company. Stock holders of the corporation changed from Ineos in the UK to Mexichem in Mexico, during the change management was also reorganised.
The re-branded company, Mexichem Japan will produce and market HFC134a, as it has up to now. In addition it will market all types of fluorochemicals such as HFC152a and R410A. Mexichem Japan has also acquired various operations such as destruction and treatment of fluorocarbon.
An outstanding lawsuit with Honeywell regarding the patent for the cooling agent R410A will be undertaken by the Mexichem group and dealt with at High Court level.
Since merging, the new Mexicham Japan group has announced a price increase on HFC134a, a product used in car air-conditioning systems. The cost hike will range from 15% to 25% and arrives as a result of rising raw material costs.
