SK Hynix, the world’s second-largest memory chipmaker after Samsung Electronics (Samsung), has jointly developed the industry’s first neon gas recycling technology with South Korean specialty gas manufacturer TEMC.
According to SK Hynix, when used in semiconductor fabs, the technology could cut the cost of purchasing neon by KRW 40bn ($30m) per year.
Neon is essential for excimer or ultraviolet lasers in chip production lithography due to its ability to create a stable discharge.
