The Northern Appalachian Region of the US is being targeted by a group of industry experts wanting to develop a low-carbon hydrogen hub as they look create a national model for sustainable energy and production systems.
EQT Corporation, Equinor, GE Gas Power, Marathon Petroleum, Mitsubishi Power, Shell Polymers and US Steel on Thursday (3 Feb) joined forces to slash emissions in the industrial base, which includes Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
Hydrogen production and utilisation will be a major aspect of the hub. In order to effectively carry out such plans, however, the consortium is looking to develop a collaborative network to engage with both the private and public sectors.
To further help reduce emissions in the region, carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CUUS) technology will be deployed. If paired with the hydrogen production aspect of the hubs, this will result in blue hydrogen production.
