India is to develop three major semiconductor units as it ramps up its electronics industry and seeks to create ‘technological self reliance’.
The Union Cabinet said all three units will start construction within the next 100 days.
The first semiconductor Fab project involving Tata Electronics Private Limited and Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation from Taiwan will be built in Dholera, Gujarat, and feature 50,000 wafers per month capacity.
The facility will target the high-performance chips sector with 28 nm technology, suitable for a range of sectors including electric vehicles, telecoms, defence, automotives and electronics.
