Last year marked the 150th year since the discovery of helium, with celebrations at the Helium Time Columns Monument in Amarillo, Texas, at the end of September.
The celebrations came just a few days before gasworld’s own Helium Summit 2018 in Houston, Texas, exploring the tight balance between global supply and demand and the evolving end-user landscape.
‘Evolving’ is definitely the word when it comes to end-user applications of helium. Despite the 150 years of its discovery and use, and its status as a most sought-after product, there are comparatively few ‘new’ applications of this high-profile gas.
