Hylium Industries has released the world’s first mobile liquid hydrogen (H2) refuelling station in South Korea.
Rather than the high-pressure gas currently used by similar fuelling stations in the United States and Japan, Hylium’s station stores H2 much more efficiently and safely, the company explained.
The mobile liquid H2 refuelling station is, essentially, a five-tonne truck carrying fuelling equipment, including a liquid H2 pump, vaporiser, and dispenser. It can store up to 7,500 litres of low-pressure (3 bar) liquid H2 and is capable of fuelling up to 100 H2-powered cars per day. Hylium Industries explained that its fuelling station uses liquid H2 with a high purity of over 99.995%.
One noteworthy advantage of the mobile liquid H2 refuelling station is its use of an 900bar liquid H2 pump system, which eliminates the need for a compressor and cooling system and thus allows for significant reductions in equipment and driving costs.
