Onsite gas generation specialist HyGear has developed a new Hy.GEN® hydrogen production system for Buse Group in the UK.
HyGear’s Hy.GEN® system uses steam methane reforming (SMR) technology to produce hydrogen. The system minimises energy loss with the use of efficient heat management, which captures and reuses heat generated during the reforming process.
Henk Kleef, CEO of HyGear, noted the importance of the delivery given the demand for high-quality process gases while eliminating the need for transportation or high costs.
BUSE Gases awarded HyGear with the contract to strengthen its hydrogen capabilities.
Dimitris Sfikas, Managing Director at BUSE Gases, expanded, “The implementation of the Hy.GEN® system, will allow us to achieve and provide a more competitive offering for our existing and new customers for hydrogen and specialty gases.”

HyGear and BUSE Group have a history of working together. In 2019, the companies established joint venture company BUSE HyGear to produce, fill and distribute hydrogen in the UK.
The company began initial operations in August 2019 and was fully operational in 2020. In August 2024, BUSE HyGear was issued an environmental permit for its hydrogen production plant in West Bromwich, indicating ongoing operations.
In October 2024, BUSE Gases announced the commissioning of the West Bromwich plant.
