Biogas and biomethane has been recognised by one of the world’s leading energy authorities after its inclusion in a special section of the International Energy Agency (IEA)’s Renewables Report 2023.
Based on the IEA’s primary analysis on the renewables sector, the report forecasts the deployment of renewable energy technologies in electricity, transport and heat to 2028, while also exploring challenges to the industry and identifying areas of growth.
The latest report features for the first time an entire section dedicated to the biogas and biomethane sector, an achievement labelled as a ‘huge milestone’ by the World Biogas Association (WBA).
“Not only does the IEA dedicate a significant number of pages to the role our industry can play as a solution to the world’s current economic and environmental crises, it anticipates the sector growth rate to accelerate from 19% in 2017 – 2022 to 32% in 2023 – 2028 as a result of impactful new policies being introduced in more than 13 countries in the past year,” said Charlotte Morton OBE, Chief Executive of the WBA.
