BOC’s Hydrogen Refuelling Station in Swindon, UK, welcomed a special visitor who came to see the advancements made in sustainable transport – the High Sheriff of Wiltshire, Mr William Wyldbore-Smith.
Accompanied by Mrs Wyldbore-Smith, the pair arrived at the UK’s first commercial-scale open access hydrogen refuelling station on the 6th of March.
The station, operated by BOC, a member of The Linde Group, and located on Honda’s manufacturing facility in Swindon, was the first in the UK built to dispense hydrogen fuel at both 350 and 700-bar pressures when it was commissioned in 2011. Since then the facility has refuelled the latest generation of fuel cell vehicles from Honda, Hyundai, Toyota and Mercedes-Benz, as well as a London bus and an iconic London black taxi.
Later this year, the station will be further developed with the introduction of on-site hydrogen production by solar powered electrolysis, an indoor dispenser for fuel cell fork lift truck use by Honda and the installation of an Education Centre.
