The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has received the heaviest ever semi-cryo-liquid oxygen (LOX) tank developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).
Designed to replace the L110 stage of the three stage Mk III, also known as the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle Mark III (GSLV Mk III), the tank is intended for payload enhancement.
The LOX tank makes a total thus far of 244 propellant tanks and 95 water tanks delivered to ISRO for several space programmes over the past five decades, all varying between 2.5 and 8 metres in length and 2.1 to 4 metres in diameter.
