A new Blended Hybrid Laminate™ (BHL) composite technology for cryogenic tubes, pipes, and transfer lines has been unveiled by Gloyer-Taylor Laboratories (GTL).
Described as a “breakthrough” technology, the BHL innovation can reach 20 degrees Kelvin and begin the flow of liquid hydrogen within two seconds.
This means that once integrated into operational systems, an aircraft carrier, for example, could fill their liquid hydrogen tanks in minutes rather than hours and easily manage the small amount of hydrogen that is boiled off during fill operations.
In turn, this reduces both the fuel costs and increases operational safety.
