South Africa has expanded its hydrogen mobility potential following the signing of a collaboration agreement between Anglo American Platinum, BMW Group South Africa (BMW) and Sasol South Africa Limited (Sasol).
Signed at the 2023 South African Green Hydrogen Summit in Cape Town, the deal will support the launch of a pilot fleet of hydrogen fuel-cell electric vehicles to be supplied by BMW.
To fuel the vehicles, Sasol will supply the green hydrogen and mobile refueler, while AAP – which provides platinum group metals (PGMs) used in FCEVs – will work with BMW and Sasol to help develop a local green hydrogen mobility system.
