H2 Energy Europe has been awarded government funding to support the development of a 20MW electrolytic hydrogen production facility at the port of Milford Haven.
Believed to be the first of its kind in South Wales, the site is expected to be operational in 2026. Planning permission for the facility has already been granted, and a final investment decision is expected in the first quarter of 2024.
Once operational, the facility will help industrial users transition to green hydrogen produced from domestic renewable sources. In addition to industrial users, the produced hydrogen will also be used in the shipping industry and serve as a chemical feedstock.
H2 Energy has said it has already received great interest in the project and is reviewing the opportunity to scale up the site in the future.
