Japan’s Industrial and Medical Gases Association (JIMGA) recently released data which purported that gaseous hydrogen deliveries across the region had fallen by over a fifth in the past year.
JIMGA, formerly known as JIGA, specified that the quantity of gaseous hydrogen being delivered had declined by 22.3% during 2009. This news marks the third consecutive year of decline for the product. The trend began in 2006, when deliveries peaked.
Experts correlate this drop in deliveries to the recent global recession and the associated decline in demand for gaseous hydrogen. A proportional analysis of this decrease shows that all segments experienced a decline, with metals depreciating the most, by 39.1%. Meanwhile, chemicals, appliances, glass and other categories also fell by 24.2%, 21.1%, 6.2% and 1.2%, respectively.
