Two entrepreneurs are to open a new hydrogen fuelling station in Ohio, much to the delight of regional environmental experts.
During September, two Ohio based entrepreneurs, Chris McWhinney and Dave Erbaugh will open the region’s first hydrogen station. The plant will be located north of Brookville at the Dull’s Family Farm and defines the continuing success of smaller industrial gas firms.
The business partners anticipate a growing demand for hydrogen power as consumers hope to save more money and as North America endeavours to be less dependent on foreign energy resources. McWhinney, predicted, “In the next 40 to 50 years, 90% of us will be using hydrogen power. When it happens, it’s going to happen really fast, like the computer revolution – look back at 1980-85, hardly anyone had a computer at home.”
Hydrogen is under competition from compressed natural gas, electricity and other natural fuels. Nevertheless it is an attractive option, particularly as cleaner fuel sources are becoming en vogue. Jack Shaner of the Ohio Environmental Council, depicted the buzz around new fuel sources such as hydrogen, “These are exciting times, it’s kind of a ‘gee-whiz’ moment for these new energy sources.”
The entrepreneurs’ firm, Millennium Reign Energy, hopes to help make consumers more energy independent by installing small hydrogen fuelling appliances in their homes. The duo anticipates that the initial investment for homeowners will be offset by various government incentives and grants.
