Intentionality in leadership requires setting goals with attached deadlines for what you want to achieve. Without a deadline for delivery, the goal just remains a loose aspiration.
That was the message from the 2023 GAWDA President Robert Anders, who was speaking to delegates on the final day of the three-day GAWDA Spring Management Conference in Philadelphia. Anders also presented a mid-year snapshot of the association’s activities and looked forward to GAWDA’s annual conference in October, which is being held in Hawaii.
“Our GAWDA theme this year is intentional leadership, as many of you know,” said Anders. “It comes down to developing habits to ensure you make every day count. I myself have been attending to my physical and mental health this year, through nutrition and by journaling every day to make a difference. I tell you this just to emphasize the key ingredients to making a difference: goals, deadlines, and fostering good habits.”
Anders said his leadership had been influenced down the years by the writer Napoleon Hill and his well-known book Think and Grow Rich. He said Hill’s quote that ‘a goal is a dream with a deadline’ remains valuable.
