The Gases and Welding Distributor Association (GAWDA) Foundation is awarding 12 college scholarships this year to students around the country, who plan to further their studies in fields applicable to the welding and gases industry.
The GAWDA Foundation scholarship is designed to help educate, attract and keep quality individuals in the industry. Since the programme began in 2013, 70 scholarships have been presented worth a total of $140,000. A total of 328 applications for the awards have been received in all, reported John Ospina, GAWDA Executive Director. Winners were announced at the association’s annual spring conference, held on the 6th-8th May in St. Louis.
This year, member companies donated $13,550 towards the scholarship programme. GAWDA is matching that amount, bringing the total contribution for 2018 to $27,100.
“GAWDA is extremely proud to be able to assist these worthy students with their tuition costs and we wish them the best in their studies. We also hope to someday welcome them to careers in the welding and gases industry as professionals who can use their educations to benefit the industry as well as their own career paths,” said Ospina.
