Energy firm Gasum plans to purchase up to 800 GWh (gigawatt hours) of e-methane from Nordic Ren-Gas as part of a gas offtake agreement.
If the deal is signed, Gasum plans to source the e-methane from the next two power-to-gas plants that Nordic Ren-Gas is developing, to be located in the Finnish cities of Lahti and Kotka.
The low-carbon gas will then be injected into the grid with the potential to be exported to Europe or liquefied for use as e-liquefied natural gas (LNG), a fuel source which could help decarbonise sectors such as maritime transport.
Planned to be up and running by 2027, the plants will produce the renewable e-methane using Finnish onshore wind power.
