British Columbia-based utility FortisBC has filed an environmental assessment (EA) application for the second phase of the Tilbury liquefied natural gas (LNG) project.
The expansion will be located at the existing Tilbury LNG facility on Tilbury Island in Delta, British Columbia. The first phase of the project was commissioned in 2018 and is producing LNG for transportation.
FortisBC’s proposed second phase includes construction and operation of a new LNG storage tank with a working volume of up to 142,400 cubic metres, new liquefaction facilities with capacity of up to 7,700 tonnes per day of LNG production, natural gas receiving facilities, and supporting infrastructure.
Following the application, the second phase of the project has entered a 180-day review period led by the BC Environmental Assessment Office. During this time, there is a 45-day public comment period where the public is invited to learn more about the project and participate in both in-person and virtual information sessions.
