The EU’s RefuelEU Aviation Regulation improperly excludes crop-based biofuels from the effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from air transport.
That is the claim from European ethanol producers as it launches its second legal challenge against the EU, alleging discrimination in policy making against Renewable Energy Directive (RED)-compliant crop-based biofuels.
According to the ethanol industry, this is despite their proven sustainability and benefits for emissions reduction.
The latest action was issued by companies representing nearly all of the EU’s production of renewable ethanol, targeting partial annulment of the regulation that excludes crop-based biofuels from the definition of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
