European energy company Equinor has signed a 15-year liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply deal with Indian fertiliser and petrochemical firm Deepak Fertilisers.
Starting in 2026, the agreement will see Equinor supply around 0.65 million tonnes of LNG per annum to Deepak.
Deepak will then use the LNG as feedstock for the production of ammonia at its fertiliser and petrochemical manufacturing plant in India. The ammonia produced will be for domestic use.
Sailesh Mehta, Chairman and Managing Director of Deepak Fertilisers and Petrochemicals, said, “The agreement will provide reliable supplies of feedstock, which will further strengthen Deepak Fertilisers’ value-chain from gas to ammonia, the key ingredient in fertilisers.”
