Businesses undertaking welding activities must ensure that effective engineering controls are provided and used correctly to control welding fumes.
According to engineering and welding equipment supplier Engweld, all impacted organisations and individuals are now required to use Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) for welding activities indoors, and adequate respiratory protective equipment (RPE) for welding outdoors and in the case that LEV is not enough to protect against the residual fumes.
Engweld provides a range of welding fume extraction solutions, including LEV, compliant with the new regulations following the reclassification of mild steel welding fume as a human carcinogen.
For on torch fume extraction solutions, Engweld said it recommends the Binzel FES-200, FES-200 W3 and the recently launched FEC Cyclone depending on what material the user is welding with.
