UK energy-from-waste (EfW) operator enfinium has become the first UK-based EfW business to join CCS+ – a global initiative to develop rigorous carbon accounting standards to underpin the growing voluntary carbon credit market.
Energy from waste is likely to play a key role in meeting growing demand for carbon removals over the coming decades, according to enfinium.
This is because the sector will continue to manage the millions of tonnes of unrecyclable biodegradable waste produced by society.
As a global alliance of carbon removal developers, CCS+ aims to scale climate technologies in carbon capture, utilisation (CCU), removal and storage to encourage investment in carbon reduction and removal technologies, thereby accelerating their adoption.
