A new partnership formed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), Flexens and Lhyfe will oversee the development of an energy island that aims to integrate large-scale offshore wind generation and hydrogen production.
The Åland Energy Island project will support the region’s and EU objectives for energy security and decarbonisation by harnessing the untapped wind resources around Åland – located between Sweden and Finland – to produce green hydrogen.
According to the partners, the exact configuration of the project will be developed in close coordination with the local government and other local stakeholders.
