American hydro start-up chooses to build its new headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia. HydroPhi, an emerging company hopes to aid the uptake of hydrogen power and reduce U.S. dependence on imported fuel sources.
Suresh Sharma, CEO of HydroPhi, said, “We’ve figured out a successful technology to use water as the raw material for energy. Hydrogen enhances fuel efficiency, and emissions drop significantly. That’s the value proposition here. In a disciplined and robust way, we are on the cutting edge.”
Currently, HydroPhi is a small, two-year old operation based in Texas. However, the company has plans to open headquarters, a factory and research and development centre in Atlanta. This expansion is hoped to create 300 jobs in a region which is already renowned for solar cell production. The company has leased a 8,000 square foot premises in Doraville in preparation of the advances.
Patrick Serfass, Vice President of the National Hydrogen Association, remarked, “They have a very interesting collection of technologies. They could provide some very attractive results to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and fuel imports.”
HydroPhi has patented two specific forms of hydrogen cell technology and expect commercial operation to begin within 18 months. Sharma commented, “We cannot just keep on having high carbon footprint applications, like automobiles or home-power generation. Since we use a raw material which is abundantly available, hydrogen, we are transformational to the industry.”
