Spanish oil and gas multinational CEPSA has partnered with independent biofuels developer Bio-Oils to construct a plant that will produce 500,000 tonnes of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and renewable diesel per year from its start-up in 2026.
The new second-generation (2G) biofuels plant, along with the existing facilities operated by the partners in Huelva, Spain, will form the second largest renewable fuel complex in Europe.
At a cost of €1.2bn ($1.3bn), the plant will also produce biogas – a raw material used in the production of green hydrogen and fertilisers.
