The US Department of Energy’s National Energy Laboratory Technology (DOE-NETL) has announced plans to support the LH CO2MENT Colorado Project.
A project partnership between Svante, LafargeHolcim, Oxy Low Carbon Venture, a wholly owned subsidiary of Occidental and Total, the project plant is designed to capture two-million tonnes of CO2 a year from the Holcim cement plat and the natural-gas fired steam generator, which would be sequestered underground permanently by Occidental.
Today’s confirmation of funding will allow the project partners to progress to the next stage, which will see project partners evaluate the feasibility of the facility.
Magali Anderson, Chief Sustainability Officer at LafargeHolcim, said, “Carbon capture, usage and storage will most likely play a key role in many industries’ decarbonisation journey. That’s why we are multiplying our pilots to test various scenarios with the ambition of reaching effective, affordable and scalable solutions.”
