In a closing audience poll, delegates identified cost inflation and economics as the main challenges to decarbonisation (63%); converting projects to FID remains an enduring, obstinate challenge.
Equally telling, when asked ‘Where is the greatest opportunity in decarbonisation through to 2040’, hydrogen (blue/low carbon) was comfortably the largest response from delegates (35%), followed by ammonia and green ammonia at 18%. The sense of economic pragmatism was underlined by only 12% ticking the green hydrogen box.
“We see these distinct quadrants spelling out a green future – but it is expensive today,” concurred Dr. Brian Higgins, Chief Strategy & Climate Officer at Babcock & Wilcox, in a closing panel discussion.
