Decarbonisation Summit: Seize hydrogen, ammonia and CO2 opportunities

It will take more than four hours to put decarbonisation strategies into concrete, scalable and mass-market action, and even with wide-ranging policy support, the road to industrial and societal decarbonisation is sure to be protracted and challenging.

But the resounding message from the opening morning of gasworld’s Decarbonisation Summit: Industrial Gases and Clean Energies 3.0 at The Westin New Jersey Newport is that changes are now discernibly underway, be that in the hydrogen and ammonia space, or more broadly across the breadth of hard-to-abate industrial processes.

Makini Byron, Director of Clean Energy Strategy at Linde, set the tone in the Opening Keynote, outlining how decarbonisation is central to the $33bn Tier One company’s internal and customer-facing objectives. From its $1.8bn project with OCI to partnerships involving CO2 sequestration with Exxon and SLB, Linde’s new industrial strategy is now tangibly taking shape as it aims to reduce absolute carbon intensity by 35% by 2035 (Scope 1 and 2), and become carbon neutral by 2050.
