Belgian carbon dioxide (CO2) recycling company D-CRBN has been granted €2.5m ($2.7m) from Horizon Europe’s flagship funding initiative the EIC Accelerator Program.
The scheme offers support to start-ups and small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with innovative products, services or business models.
D-CRBN was recognised for the ‘disruptive potential’ of its CO2 recycling solution, which falls under the banner of carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) – technologies included in the European Commission’s 2040 Roadmap as essential to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 90% by 2040.
According to Gill Scehltjes, CEO of D-CRBN, out of over one thousand applications from start-ups and SMEs for the EIC Accelerator cut-off, only 4% passed.
