Constellation Energy Company has started up a 1MW demonstration-scale, nuclear-powered clean hydrogen production facility at its Nine Mile Point plant in Oswego, New York.
Believed to be the first of its kind in the nation, the plant can produce 560kg of clean hydrogen per day, more than enough to meet its operational hydrogen use.
The US Department of Energy (DOE) last year approved moving forward with construction and installation of an electrolyser system at Nine Mile Point with an award of $5.8m.
As part of its broader decarbonisation strategy, Constellation is working with public and private entities in the hydrogen value chain to pursue development of regional hydrogen production and distribution hubs.
