For over six decades, Kaplan Industries has been serving in the welding, beverage, and medical fields with compressed gas cylinders and equipment. The company’s story dates back to the early 1950s in a small building in Philadelphia when the Kaplan brothers – Morris and Albert Kaplan – founded an independent supply business serving local welding and fire-protection distributors. The brothers supplied these distributors with compressed gas cylinders and related equipment, which would, unknown at the time, led to a major role in the steel cylinder business.
From this modest beginning on a small Philadelphia site, the company now rests its headquarters and multiple DOT-approved production facilities on a 16-acre campus northwest of Cincinnati in Harrison, Ohio. This expansion was driven by the growth of the company’s domestic, international, and specialty gases division that demanded enhanced warehouse, production, and cleaning facilities.
The new facility has given Kaplan the ability to keep expanding its horizons. With the additional space, a decision was made in 2017 to enter the specialty gas business. And with two bulk tanks, Kaplan is growing quickly.
But the company’s business isn’t limited to the US. Although the company historically targeted the North American market, it now has a global footprint. Kaplan started to expand its geographical reach in 2019, when it implemented and invested in an international division that has now scaled to serve over 20 countries globally.
