Semiconductor manufacturing firms Coherent, SkyWater Technology Foundry, and X-Fab have each signed preliminary memoranda of terms with the US Department of Commerce to receive millions of dollars under the CHIPS and Science Act.
The separate agreements will see Coherent receive up to $33m, SkyWater Technology Foundry receive up to $16m, and X-Fab receive up to $50m. If approved, each company will use the capital to expand and modernise existing facilities in the US.
US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo said the proposed investments across Texas and Minnesota will help to bolster domestic chip production and help secure the supply chain.
