CO2Meter launches new portable CO2 safety detector

Florida-based gas detection specialist CO2Meter has launched a new portable carbon dioxide (CO2) detector to help prevent injuries or fatalities caused by CO2 exposure.

The PRO-10 portable CO2 safety detector provides real-time CO2 monitoring in a range of industries, including food and beverage, dry ice production, indoor agriculture, or pharma fields.

According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), a concentration of CO2 greater than 5,000 parts per million (ppm) over an eight-hour period can pose serious health risks if not monitored.

CO2 leaks in enclosed spaces can escalate fast, making monitoring essential.

The PRO-10 was developed off customer feedback and extensive field testing, following CO2Meter’s launch of the SAN-10 personal CO2 safety monitor

“Customers sought further enhancements in durability, battery life, and alarm volume,” CO2Meter explained. “Responding to these needs, CO2Meter introduced a more rugged design, a longer-lasting battery, and a louder alarm system that won’t interfere with daily activities but ensures safety in the presence of a CO2 leak.”

Without proper CO2 monitoring, personnel in environments like restaurants, beverage distribution facilities, grow spaces, and laboratories are at significant risk.

Most modern CO2 detectors use a non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) sensor that measures infrared light in a sample of air. This is useful as the amount of light that passes through the air sample is inversely proportional to the number of CO2 molecules in the air.

Continuous CO2 monitoring with gas detectors ensures that hazardous concentrations are quickly identified, allowing immediate corrective action to protect workers and prevent costly accidents.

In the upcoming December issue of gasworld US, we sit down with CO2Meter to discuss the importance of CO2 detection in the food and beverage market. Keep an eye out!
